studio portrait of William DoonanWilliam P. Doonan, 81, died Monday at Marcella Nursing and Rehabilition Center, Burlington.

Born in Newark, he lived in the Columbus area three years.

A graduate of Boston College, Mr. Doonan retired as a controller with the Crane Co. in New York.

He was a lieutenant in the Navy during the World War II and enjoyed golf.

Son of the late Patrick and Catherine Heslin Doonan and brother of the late Dr. James Doonan, he is survived by his wife, E. Marie Miller Doonan; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Thomas J. and Yvonne Doonan of Kannapolis, N.C., and David and Judy Doonan of Greenwich, N.Y.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Hope Doonan of Columbus, Polly and Matthew McGinniss of San Diego and Grace and Keith Fennimore of Columbus; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Virginia Doonan of Lynn, Mass.; a sister and brother-in-law, Geniveve and Richard Tyrell of Winthrop, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 45 Crosswicks St. Bordentown, with the Rev. Michael Burns, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Friends may call 10:30 a.m. until service at the church.

Arrangements are by Hartmann Funeral Home of Bordentown.
